Ah yes, the old country. No one does the everyday drinking beer like the Germans. I know, some may comment that German beers are boring and lack character; but that is true only to the untrained palate. The true beer lovers among us really know how to appreciate the drinkability of a German Pilsner. In my continued journey through beers of the old country, the German Pilsner is the gold standard and show the great pride that Germans have in producing quality, drinkable beers.. There are so many great ones too! From a brewery that was established in 1817, Bitburger Premium is another that represents the classic German Pilsner well. I have never tried Bitburger Premium before and don’t really know why; however, I am glad that I added this one to my list.
Bitburger pours a brilliant clear, golden color. As you pour it, an off-white head with small bubbles forms, rising to the top of the glass. Am I the only one? The ritual of pour a beer is as satisfying as drinking one! Head retention is about medium, it forms nicely and dissipates into liquid in less than a minute or so. You are greeted by a traditional herbal and bready nose. Taste is herbal and bready as well – just what you would expect. Malts are low, but sweet. Finish dry and short with a very mild bitterness. Reminiscent of champagne, but much, much better!
Bottom line: I have grown to love the simple, straight forward drinkability of German Pilsners from the old country. Bitburger is no exception to the rule. If you want to bring some import beer diversity to your party or gathering, you can’t miss with Bitburger Premium Beer.
