The folks at Goodword know how to properly pour a beer. I present Rope Of Sand Helle Style. This is a great brewery. Highly recommend it.
A good Dark Mild is one of my favorite English style beers. These pub ales may appear simple yet they have complex malt character and are a joy to drink. These are low ABV sessionable beers. Fox Farm Brewing makes an outstanding one - Tiddly (3.8% ABV). Tiddly is malt forward with chocolate, toffee and nutty notes- plenty to keep it interesting. Low bitterness, semi-dry, ending in a medium length delightfully malty finish. This one has nitro in it that boosts the head without making it seem overly carbonated. Nice to see a brewery making this highly drinkable style and doing it well.
Thanks to Beer Advocate buddy Bill in CT, I've had the pleasure of sampling some beers from an excellent brewery in Salem, CT - Fox Farm Brewery. Their Stet Altbier (5% ABV) is spot on for the style. It's bready and spicy with a hint of nuttiness. Soft on the palate and low carbonation. The sweetness of the malt is well balanced with a notable hop bitterness. You expect the bitterness to keep building to a bracing stickiness, but instead, the maltiness extends well into the finish, complementing the bitterness to the end of a lengthy finish. A fine, well crafted German style classic.
I'm trying out some NA beers this weekend and this one was a pleasant surprise. Samuel Adams Just The Haze IPA. You'd be hard pressed to pick it out of a lineup of alcoholic Hazy IPA versions. Produces a fluffy white head with good retention. Citra, Mosaic, Sabro & Cascade hops provide moderate citrus and tropical fruit notes. Understated bitterness. Mouth-feel is light to medium bodied. None of the hop burn you get from poorly made Hazy IPAs. Very enjoyable NA beer. I'll definitely buy this one again. Well done @samueladamsbeer!
Happy German Beer Day! Flensburger Pilsner, a highly enjoyable German Pils that comes in a swing top bottle. Cool. Shows off traditional German precision brewing. @flens
Another tasty discovery from my last excursion to Akademia Brewing Co. - Helles Babes Helles Lager with Peaches. This is genius! Take a clean, crisp drinkable Helles with restrained bitterness and add peaches. The lager base beer perfectly showcases the peach flavor but you still know you are drinking a beer. It's 5.1% ABV and crushable. This one probably won't last long, so I grabbed a 6'er on the way out. Head Brewer Morgan Wireman & crew hit a home run with this one. Even better, a portion of proceeds from purchases of Helles Babes is donated to nonprofit Project Safe. Good beer. Good cause.
