If you have been following my Oktoberfest beer reviews, you know by now there are only six breweries in Germany officially licensed to make beer for the Oktoberfest celebration.  You also know that most of the beers marketed here in the United States are Marzen style, which are not quite the same as the official Oktoberfest beers served in Munich.  If you are looking to try an official Oktoberfest beer from Munich, Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier is a great choice.

Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier pours a clear, brilliant gold color, very sleek and elegant.  It produces a fluffy white head with moderate retention.  The hops aromas are not particularly strong, but a floral aroma is detectable within the grainy malt ones.  Flavors are still malt forward with a medium sweetness; but has a restrained bitterness.  The finish is short, sweet, lightly carbonated, and more dry than a Marzen.

Bottom line:  Hofbrau Oktoberfestbier is one of the official beers of Oktoberfest in Germany.  It is refreshing and lighter than the typical Marzen we get here in the United States.  Be aware that it is at the top end of Festbiers in ABV – clocking a 6.3%, so please do drink responsibly.  For your Oktoberfest celebration, Hofbrau is a must have to compliment the Marzens you would have available. Prost!
