Sometimes you just want something crisp and refreshing, kind of a no brainer beer that will pair well with a lot of different foods. Well balanced Pilsners and American Pale Ales will often fit the bill. ATaLe Pale Ale from Second Self Beer Company based in Atlanta, GA is one of those American Pale Ales that plays well with others.

Like many Georgia craft breweries, Second Self Beer Company is only about four years old. It is located just off of Chattahoochee Avenue near downtown Atlanta not far from two other local breweries, Atlanta Brewing Company (formerly Red Brick Brewing) and Scofflaw Brewing. Officially opened in 2014, the brewery was founded by two Georgia Tech graduates Chris Doyle and Jason Santamaria after several years of brewing beer as an escape from everyday life. This is also how they came up with the name of their brewery – a description of their alter ego, life away from work. They have cleverly turned that into a two of everything theme – two colors for each beer, two sides to every beer, two 2’s in the logo, etc.

ATaLe Pale Ale pours pale golden color with a slight haziness and forms a nice, fluffy white head. Mild floral and bready aromas greet you at first whiff. It presents restrained, floral hops and mild malt sweetness that are well balanced beginning to end. It has a pleasant, creamy mouthfeel culminating in a short very mild bitterness that does not hang on into the aftertaste.

Bottom line: ATaLe Pale Ale is a well crafted American Pale Ale. It fits nicely into the “go-to beer” category for parties and gatherings when you desire a high quality versatile beer for your guests. It will pair well with a number of different varieties of foods.
